The Key To Success in Whatever You Do

Many of the clients I work with come to me because they are struggling with achieving success. It seems no matter what they do, something always comes up and gets in their way. Have you experienced that yourself? Always struggling struggling struggling to get to where you want to go, but unable to ever actually get there...?

We all have, so don't kick yourself.

So if we've all experienced this, why is it that some people seem to persevere and get what they're after while others just don't? What is their secret? What do they know that the rest of us don't?

The key to success is commitment.

commitment is the key to success

Commitment is one of the #1 things we absolutely must have if we expect to achieve the goals we have established. And if you're honest - really honest with yourself, you'll have to admit that anytime you've failed to reach a goal, it's been a goal you weren't really that committed to anyway.

It may have been something you wanted or like to dream about, but that true, lasting commitment just wasn't there.

The truth is, we all struggle with commitment with something. Whether it's a health routine, waking up at the time we said we would, the new cleaning program, or something else entirely.

Some might say skills are paramount to commitment - that no matter what you're attempting, if you don't have the skills, to do it, you aren't going be successful.

I would actually disagree. See, it doesn't matter what kind of skills you have, if you don't have 100% commitment, when the going gets a little tougher (and I promise, it will get tough) you're not committed to staying the course.

In fact, what you lack in skill, can be made up for in commitment.

What do you need to be committed to?

Commitment to learning & developing the new skill

As you progress down the road to your goals, you're going to quickly discover that you don't know everything you need to know. Will you quit at the first sign of the unknown or will you venture through and commit to learning whatever you need to learn to continue forward?

If you want to grow, you have to learn.

Commitment to sharing your product/service

Here's the deal, if you don't share what you're doing with the world, how is anyone going to find out about it? The number one reason I hear from people who aren't really sharing what their product or service is because they are afraid of what people will think.

You want my perspective?

Who cares what people think! People are going to think what they are going to think - you don't have any control over that. So get out there and show the world what you've got!

Commitment to going through the hills & valleys as you go down this very long & winding journey.

Nothing worth doing is going to be hassle-free. Otherwise everyone would have already done it. As you get ready to go down the path toward whatever goal you've set for yourself, you have to know that you are going to experience just as many lows as you do highs.

You can count on it.

That's actually pretty good news. That means that even though you can count on the not-so-good moments, you can also count on the amazing moments too.

Commitment to find others who want to walk this journey with you

Success isn't created in a vacuum. It's important to have others who are there to support and encourage you along the way. You might be tempted to say, "I don't need anyone else. I've got this!" And while that may be true right now, it won't always be true.

Remember, if you expect high points along this journey, you can also expect low points.

During these low points, you're going to need a reason to keep moving forward. That's where having a team of support all around you is going to come in handy.

So commit to finding others who are willing to be there on the sidelines cheering you on, or better yet, right there on the path with you during each step you take.

Commitment to yourself during the journey

No matter what else is going on, you have to remain committed to self-care throughout this process. You know the announcement they make on airplanes about securing your own oxygen mask before helping anyone else with theirs??? Yeah. The same principle applies here. As you're traveling this journey, make sure you commit to taking good care of yourself along the way.

Otherwise you'll never make it to the finish line.

I want to see you cross that finish line!

If you are not truly committed, you will quit. Probably not when you reach your first hurdle. Maybe not even when you reach your second hurdle. But sooner or later you will grow tired of jumping over hurdles to get to a destination you’re not even fully invested in. And you’ll quit.
